
Temporary Residency Permit Employment (Visa Waiver Program) 88.2
To obtain a temporary residence permit in Portugal for employment purposes under article 88 paragraph 2 of immigration law, the following steps must be taken:
- Report entry to the Portugal Immigration department (SEF) within three working days of entry.
- Obtain a NIF number (tax ID) from the Finance and Taxation department.
- Get a confirmation of address letter from Junta de freguesia, the executive body of each municipality.
- Get a Social Security number from the Segurança Social institute.
- Have an employment contract and pay taxes (34.75% of gross salary) with employer paying 23.75% and employee paying 11.00%.
- Submit a request for residency permit through the electronic platform (SAPA Portal) along with supporting documents, including passport or travel document, proof of regular entry, proof of sufficient means of subsistence, criminal record, proof of accommodation, confirmation of Social Security registration, proof of tax registration, and job contract.
- Wait for a response from SEF.
- Note: The minimum working age in Portugal is 16 and the minimum wage is €635.
