Residence Permit For Highly Skilled Activity Professionals
The Portuguese immigration authority has created a law for highly qualified activity professionals to be legal residents in Portugal. This law, Article 90, covers specialists in teaching, culture promotion, technology and innovation, and highly qualified activity.
To qualify under Article 90, the professional must have a contract of employment or services agreement, a minimum of one year, with a salary of at least 1.5 times the national average yearly gross salary (1,752.52 euros per month). To obtain a temporary residence permit (TRP), the professional must have the necessary educational qualifications and experiences, Portuguese tax and social security numbers, and provide a passport and visa, criminal records, and proof of professionalism in Portugal.
An appointment must be made with the Foreign and Borders Services (SEF) for biometrics, and the residency card will be delivered by post.
The TRP is valid for two years. The process usually takes 3 to 6 months for a final decision.
