Admission Process in Portugal

The admission process to enroll in Portuguese educational institutes includes the following steps:

  • Submit the following documents via email: passport copy, visa copies, educational materials from 10th grade onwards, IELTS scorecard or equivalent documents, updated CV, and recommendation letter.
  • After the university assesses the submitted materials and confirms the applicant’s eligibility, an invoice will be issued.
  • Pay the registration and application fees of 100-200 Euros.
  • Submit an application for enrollment to the university.
  • Pay the enrollment fees of 300-500 Euros.
  • The university will then issue a final acceptance letter with visa support documents, such as insurance, accommodation, and a guarantee letter proof.

Note: The entire process takes approximately 30-45 working days and the application and enrollment fees are non-refundable.

International students have the right to receive education in Portugal and there is an individual quota system in place for international students. The minimum schooling education required to be eligible for admission to Portuguese universities is 12 years, and the applicant must have good English or Portuguese proficiency. Some universities in Portugal offer courses taught in dual languages, such as English and Portuguese. The average tuition fee for international students in Portugal is 3500-7000 euros per year. A list of Portuguese universities can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education or through a Google search. To obtain a student visa for Portugal, an applicant must confirm enrollment in a Portuguese registered institute, show financial stability, and demonstrate their intention to study in Portugal. IELTS is mandatory for higher studies in Portugal for international students. The acceptability of study gaps depends on the university’s criteria. International students who are pursuing higher education in Portugal can apply for temporary residency according to Article 91.
